Antalya gets compared to the Greek islands constantly, and I understand why turquoise water, ancient ruins, Mediterranean food. But I think the comparison undersells it. Antalya is more layered than most Greek island destinations, particularly if you venture beyond the all-inclusive resort zone.

Kaleici genuinely surprised me. I expected a tourist trap old town. What I found was a well-preserved Roman and Ottoman quarter where people actually live laundry hanging between windows above carpet shops, cats sleeping on ancient stone walls, restaurants in the old harbour that serve decent food at prices that feel almost impossible by UK standards.

The Aspendos Roman theatre is the kind of sight that makes you stop walking and just stand there. It is better preserved than the Colosseum and a fraction of the crowd.
